Taryn Scholl, Owner/Teacher

Mrs. Scholl grew up in a family of educators. She graduated from ASU with a degree in Computer Information Systems and started a professional career in business and real estate. She quickly discovered after the birth of her first child that she needed to make a career change in order to fulfill her dreams of working with children and spending more time with her growing family.

When her daughter was two years old and she was pregnant with her son, Mrs. Scholl earned her second bachelor’s degree, this time in Family and Human Development.

Mrs. Scholl has worked with children of all ages from birth to pre-kindergarten and enjoys the adventures of each age group. Her passion is in teaching children five and younger because she knows how important those years are to a child’s development and learning. Mrs. Scholl is a certified Baby Signs instructor, has her fingerprint clearance card, is first-aid and CPR certified, and has her state food handlers card.

Originally from North Dakota, Mrs. Scholl has been an Arizona “native” since 1994. Her husband, Brian, works for the Phoenix Fire Department, and she has three amazing children, Avry, Devin, and Kennedy.

Mrs. Scholl is your child’s teacher.

Kristen Carr, Teaching Assistant/Administrator

Mrs. Carr earned her degree from CSULB in Art History and enjoyed an early career in graphic design management. She has gone on to own her own successful pet sitting business since 2005. She is an involved parent, logging countless volunteer hours at her children’s schools. She most recently taught the kindergarten Art Masterpiece program at Horizon Community Learning Center.

Mrs. Carr believes strongly in the home-based preschool option. Her passion for quality education for children under the age of five began when she was seeking out educational opportunities for her first-born. She has experience working as a teaching assistant for children from birth to age five and has a strong business background.

Originally from Southern California, Mrs. Carr moved to Arizona in 2005. Her husband, Brennen, works in restaurant management. She is mother to step-son, Brennen Jr., and children, Porter and Campbell.

Mrs. Carr handles Square Roots’ administration and is on-site most days as a teaching assistant. She has her fingerprint clearance card. She serves as substitute teacher when Mrs. Scholl requires it.

Tena Carr, Early Childhood Development Consultant

Mrs. Carr has over forty years of experience in the field of child development/early childhood education. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her Master’s Degree in Child Development from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Iowa.

She has been a Head Start teacher and Professor of Child Development and Early Childhood Education at Modesto Junior College and San Joaquin Delta Community College in California. While teaching at the college level, she helped design and open three campus child development centers and supervised student teachers, and has taught lecture and online courses. She has served on the California Chancellor’s Office Advisory Committee for Early Childhood Development, and is President of Board of Directors of the San Joaquin County Resource and Referral Agency. Currently, Mrs. Carr teaches online courses in early childhood education leadership.

Mrs. Carr lives in Stockton, California with her husband, Richard, and makes frequent visits to Arizona to visit her three grandchildren, son, Brennen, and his wife, Kristen. Her other son, Greg, and daughter-in-law live in Stockton.

Mrs. Carr is a consultant on policies, curriculum and environment, mainly working remotely, but making quarterly visits to the facility.

Shanan Villarreal, Speech Consultant

Mrs. Villarreal is a Speech-Languge Pathologist and co-owner of Arizona Advanced Therapy, LLC. Mrs. Villarrea attended Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She then continued her education at ASU and earned her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology.

Throughout her college years, Mrs. Villarrea worked with children with special needs, specifically children with autism. She helped to develop and implement home programs containing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Floortime, and other treatment techniques. Throughout Mrs. Villarrea’s career, she has had the opportunity to attend training seminars related to autism, apraxia, oral motor and feeding therapy, PROMPT, and fragile infant feeding, as well as transitioning from the tube to oral feeds.

Mrs. Villarrea co-founded Arizona Advanced Therapy, LLC, which operates a pediatric therapy clinic in Chandler, AZ, providing pediatric occupational and speech therapies in home, clinic, and school environments. AAT also currently participates in providing AzEIP services for children birth-three years of age and is a part of Arizona Cooperative Therapies.

Mrs. Villarreal is available to consult with parents about any concerns or questions they have regarding their student’s speech or language development.
